TC Bar (Do not get confused with Turquoise Cottage), which was launched in the beginning of 2014. Its initial aim was to cater to corporates around CP area with it alluring Happy Hours. The plan isn’t working out very well, but it does receive selected customers during lunch breaks and after work hours.
The bar is located on the first floor at Outer Circle M-Block. There is nothing fancy about its décor; it somehow looks dull, well except for cheap beers. But the walls are smartly done-up with rock-stars and lookalike bills pinned on them. In a way, the only décor element would be a six foot tall iron man chained to the wall, at the entrance hall. The Bar looks like a warehouse and is divided into small chambers, which gives the place both positive and negative points. It can host 90 covers comfortable.
Lighting is the least attractive feature of the bar. It’s a little too dark, thus when you enter you may feel a little uncomfortable. Rather, some additional bulbs will enhance the ambiance and make it livelier — also enhance their signature color red. But, if the indoor area does not attract you, you can always climb to the terrace area, which is hidden behind thick plants. The view of the surroundings is remarkable, and also offers total privacy.
The bar serves; Chinese, Thai, and European Cuisines —a total of 109 items. The menu is interestingly designed; to exhibit its Rock theme, the menu has prints of various musicians and music instruments.
The menu starts with All Day Beverages, such as Shakes and Smoothies. And they actually taste good! If you are a salad person, you have to try Grilled Chicken Salad (European) and Som Tam (Thai); they are as good as they sound. TC Bar’s Starters Section is pretty normal; do not have anything extraordinary. All vegetarian Starters are priced at Rs 310, and all Non-Vegetarian Starters at Rs. 390. From Veg Starters: Crispy Onion Rings, Volcano of Veg Nachos, and Garlic Bread with Cheese and Jalapenos are smart choice. And from Non-Veg Starters: Dry Chilli Chicken (Chinese) taste soothing. Also, check out, Phoenix Chicken Breast (Continental), and Kaichi Chicken Wings (Chinese).
The Lamb & Pork Section was the most appealing section for me! Roasted Pork Dry Chilli was simply excellent. From the Fish & Seafood Section, the Grilled Prawns with BBQ Sauce is an absolute darling to the palate. Now coming to the Mains, this is how they have divided the menu; Vegetarian items Rs. 400, Chicken Rs. 425, Meats Rs. 475, and Seafood Rs. 550. Sampled items are: Mains Veg: Veg Claypot and Stir Fry Chinese Greens in Light Soya are a delight, Mains Non-Veg: Chicken Claypot, Kung Pao Chicken and Nasi Goreng will make you scream, and Mains Seafood: 100% Fish and Chips and Prawns in Hot Garlic Sauce are just lip-smacking.
What ignited me is the Mixology! Their cocktails are names after various rock bands and their songs. What must you try? Here is the list! Janis Joplin; signature cocktails based on her songs are ‘One Night Stand’ (Strong) and ‘Mary Jane’ (Light): Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR); ‘Sweet Hitcher-Hiker’ (Light): Frank Zappa; ‘Beer Shampoo’ (Strong – comes with 3 Whites, 1 Dark & A Beer). Also check out The Who, Bob Dylan and The Classics Sections. If you ask them to serve their favorites, they will serve you ‘Long Island Iced Tea’ (Strong – Mix of Bacardi, Gin, Vodka, Tequila & Triple Sec), and ‘Beer Blaster’ (Strong), which can knock you out. Shots and Liqueurs Sections are interesting too, but nothing that fancy.
